Exquisite Glass Sculptures by Amanda Brisbane
Amanda Brisbane is the UK’s foremost sand cast glass artist. Her work has a masterful fluency that depends entirely on the casting being completed in a single stage. As the molten glass begins to solidify, she intervenes, manipulating it with her hands, coaxing new shapes to materialise.
Each piece of glass is therefore a subtle collaboration of artistry and chemistry. Unusually, Amanda produces all the raw materials used to colour the glass herself. The Oxides used in the process are what help to define each sculpture. The end result is always something unique – an original work of art. Her attractive pieces include the “Frozen Water” series in Aqua, Ice and Topaz.
Born in 1964, Amanda studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London. After graduating with a 1st Class Honours degree in 3D glass design, she was given two scholarships, first to the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and secondly to the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Her work is held in collections across Europe and the USA, and has received a variety of awards including one from the Lord Mayor of London.
“I am inspired by glass and the challenges it creates. Each piece is unique, unrepeatable. How the colour splits or gathers cannot be predicted or replicated.”
The beautiful Amanda Brisbane artwork can be found at Heart Galleries, an independant gallery based in the Heart of the Country Village in rural Staffordshire. Alternatively, all of Amanda Brisbane’s glass sculptures can be found at Heart Gallerie’s website.
