South Florida Residence Wants Markoff Back For Air & Sea Show

The Fort Lauderdale air show which was planned for April 24-25, the promised resurrection of a single of South Florida’s most widely used events, was canceled.Air show would-be producer Stan Smith said Monday he’s uses up some time and doesn’t are able to afford. As long as an “angel” sponsor materialized Monday or Tuesday could he wear it.

“It’s very sad to run out of time,” Smith said. “Everyone wanted it to happen. It’s that by the end of waking time, no person knows how to pay it off.”

Smith said one of the hardships he faced was securing a $2million bond the location of Fort Lauderdale required. The bond would pay the location its estimated $500,000 to $600,000 in costs, plus spend on any property damage, if Smith couldn’t pay. But Smith couldn’t have the bond, he needed someone to co-sign for his new operation.

Smith was looking to restore air show prominent by Mickey Markoff. The show ended after a 13-year run in Fort Lauderdale when Markoff lost his key sponsor. Smith’s show, Air Lauderdale Beach Fest, would have been smaller and also a bit unique of Markoff’s show.

Smith planned to charge an entry fee in the best viewing locations. Anf the husband didn’t have the most famous air act, nowhere Angels or Thunderbirds fighter jets that shocked and awed the crowds. He’d enlarged the area the location where the festival would occur, and planned a Green Village, a Politics Village, a Thank the Troops Zone, live music, etc.

Smith said he needed to cancel the show now away from fairness to anyone who might spend some time or money on the program, just to own it not stop.

Smith had no training gaining a show of this magnitude. A public relations consultant, he previously worked for H. Wayne Huizenga.

This story is his “final plea towards the community.” He explained he needs “only a million dollars” but wouldn’t say just how much, from a title sponsor or a collection of sponsors, to save the show.
